Riad Be: Best Riads in Marrakech

Riad BE Marrakech

What is a riad?

According to dictionary.com, a riad is: (in Morocco) a large traditional house built around a central courtyard, often converted into a hotel.

Marrakech is a city made up of riads, currently boasting a whopping estimate of around 1500 of these traditional Moroccan homes. The majority of these homes have now been converted to hotels or Airbnb rentals to book for your travels to Marrakech.

With so many riads in Marrakech, you won’t have any issue finding one within your budget and that fits your travel needs. But how do you find the best of the best?

Before our travels to Marrakech, I thoroughly researched (seemingly) all of the riads in Marrakech and found the below list to be the best of the best. I do this every time we travel, but Marrakech has been my favorite place to find lodging in. It seemed that each new riad I came across was more beautiful that the last.

Some of the Marrakech riads listed below are individual rooms, and others are entire properties you can book for your group travels.

Where we stayed in Marrakech

While inside the medina of Marrakech, we stayed at Riad L'Atelier (mid-list in this post) and it hands down deserves the perfect reviews it has. It was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had to date, it is perfectly located in a quiet street off from the Medina, and the riad hosts went above and beyond to make our stay spectacular.

We booked Room 1 which was on the ground floor and opened up directly into the central courtyard and pool. During our stay at Riad L’Atelier, we ate some of the best food from our entire time in Marrakech, and especially enjoyed the breakfast from the rooftop each morning.

The riad is located around a short ten-minute walk from all of the main action and the souks in the medina, and the route to get from the riad to the medina is one of my favorite areas from everything we saw in Marrakech.

Similar to most riads in Marrakech, the Riad L’Atelier arranged for a driver to meet us at the airport, who then drove us to a meeting point where one of the hotel staff met us and carried our bags. If it’s your first time to Marrakech, this service is beneficial as it can be a bit overwhelming to navigate the medina once inside its walls.

Riad Le Pèlerin: Most Beautiful Riads in Marrakech, Morocco

From the Reviews: Excellent service, warm smiles and hospitality from check in all the way to my department. I arrived late at 1am but still have a smiling warm staff Tarik who fetched me from the main road that leads into the small beautiful alleys of Medina (no cars allowed) but opens up to a wondrous quiet oasis tucked away from it all. Manager Chiara is also full of smiles and amazing hospitality that would even extend their help or service for my stay here in Marrakech. Had their massage service in the comfort of my own bedroom as the heat of weather is tuning up now, and the experience was wondrous. I got a Tonic Massage and the lady was skilled and friendly, had the best first day arrival with such welcoming feel-good experience.

From the Reviews: The location was amazing and we felt really safe as the Riad is directly accessible by car. The Riad also has a number for taxis which also made us feel at ease that we didn’t have to try and find taxis in the evening. The Riad itself is stunning, beautiful decorated, well equipped and really clean. The heated pool, Sonos sound system and movie projector really were amazing. Lastly we can’t speak highly enough of Fadwa. She was the highlight of our trip. She made us feel SO welcome & helped with every question we had. Her breakfast, mint tea and welcome cookies were absolutely incredible (so much so we asked for the cookies again!). On our last night we had a birthday dinner cooked for us by Fadwa in the Riad (she set the most beautiful table with fresh flowers and candles) and it was some of the best food we had in Marrakech. We can’t recommend this place enough.

From the Reviews: ROSEMARY. What can i say, just remember this name! We stayed here for 3nights in october. The experience starts when the big wooden door opens and you find this hidden treasure tucked away in a narrow street. You are welcomed by friendly staff and given a tour of this magnificent riad. We LOVED the design and interior of the hotel. You really feel the craftmanship in every single detail. The breakfast on the rooftop terrace was the best we ever had in marrakech. We also booked a lunch and dinner and both times the food and atmosphere was amazing. The location of Rosemary is perfect to discover the medina and its surroundings. We really enjoyed our time at Rosemary and we definitely will come back soon.

From the Reviews: We felt at home at Riad Maison24. Khalid and his team were extremely accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was delicious and the location of the Riad is perfect for walking to all the spots in the centre of Medina. When I arrive from the airport I recommend using Google Maps or in exchange with the RiadMaison24 team to clarify the exact street, as it is a bit difficult to find the Riad right away due to the small streets. On our arrival we were kindly picked up by Mahdi, a Riad member of staff, from the nearby taxi station. We would come back anytime during our next stay in Marrakech as we really enjoyed the hospitality, the beautiful accommodation and the location of the Riad.

From the Reviews: Riad Jardin Secret was incredible -- it felt like a beautiful, calm home within the Medina. The area of Medina adjacent is gorgeous and has excellent cafes and shopping, before it gets too hectic. Easy to take a taxi to and from. The staff and team there are so wonderful, they truly treated us like family and went above and beyond with hospitality. The riad itself has 16th century tile work, is exceptionally decorated, and has so much character and charm. Highly recommend, alone worth the trip to Marrakech! One of my most memorable and wonderful boutique hotel experiences.

Riad L'Atelier: Where to Stay in Marrakech, Morocco

From the Reviews: As a woman traveling alone to Morocco for the first time, I was a little nervous and had put all of my trust in this hotel that I booked from 6000 miles away. Riad L'Atelier exceeded my expectations in every way. The hotel had a driver waiting for me at the airport when I arrived. He drove me to the Medina to within a couple blocks of the Riad, where a friendly face from the Riad met me and accompanied me the rest of the way. Arriving at the Riad, a beautiful oasis amid a bustling sea of humanity just outside the walls, I was treated to a tea service and relaxed in the stunning courtyard. A gourmet dinner of Tagine and salad were served to me for dinner on the roof deck where I soaked in the warm breeze and the sounds of the evening call to prayer. The next morning I did some yoga on the roof deck (mat provided by the hotel) and was served a fantastic breakfast fit for a king. The hotel is quaint, beautifully appointed, has exceptionally good food and is in a great location for taking in the sites, sounds and smells of Marrakech. However, what makes Riad L'Atelier stand out is how well cared-for I felt during my stay. The staff were so warm and welcoming and the service outstanding. I felt safe and at home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience the heart and soul of Marrakech and its wonderful people.

From the Reviews: The riad is gorgeous, in a perfect location - rooftop sunny, quiet and peaceful. Just as described. Colle was amazing throughout our trip, responded super quickly whenever we had a query or needed a recommendation for food/Hammam/transport. But honestly the highlight of our whole trip was Meriam’s delicious breakfasts and one home cooked dinner. It was the best we ate in Marrakech - perfectly seasoned, huge portions of local ingredients and Meriam left us with the leftovers for lunches. As self confessed foodies, we were super impressed. Beds comfy, everything perfectly clean, we were very well looked after for the entirety of our stay. NOT TO BE MISSED!

From the Reviews: Stay here! That' all I really need to say. It's beautiful and quiet and Inès is an incredible host - always available in person or via text messages to offer local suggestions, answer questions or check plans. The accommodation itself is pristine and so calming, and the roof terrace is a great spot to enjoy the sun. I would recommend booking the transfer from the airport as the driver walked me through the alleyways directly to the riad (which could be tricky to find first time). It's a 10-15 minute walk in to the medina and there are lots of good restaurants and a couple of bars close by. I honestly couldn't recommend a stay here enough - I can't wait to go back!

From the Reviews: I highly recommend Riad Dar Num. It is absolutely incredible!!! You will find it hard to find anywhere as perfect as Dar Num. It's a dream home!!Stunningly decorated, ridiculously spacious, spotlessly clean, bang in the centre of all the Medina action, and walking distance from anywhere within the Medina. The host Celine is very friendly and very quick to respond to any questions. Celine so accommodating and so helpful - booking taxis for us, restaurant recommendations and very kindly let us have a later check out. The two staff, Naima and Najib are very discreet, very polite and are also so very helpful. We arranged for a late 11am breakfast each day and they would discreetly arrive just before 11 to cook you the most amazing breakfast with a huge selection, then would make the beds and change the towels etc and be gone again. I would 100% definitely stay at Riad Dar Num again and I hope that will be sometime soon, and I without doubt would highly recommend it to others.

From the Reviews: This hotel is a utopia within the lively and chaotic (in the best way) Medina of Marrakech. We stayed at IZZA for a few nights in September. From the moment we stepped foot in the hotel, we were blown away by the level of service and setting. Visually, the hotel is stunning and you can see how much thought and attention has gone into the design – the perfect merge of traditional Moroccan architecture with all the modern amenities. There are so many pockets to relax and recuperate. We ate at the rooftop restaurant on several occasions and it’s a must for anyone visiting the city – the food is excellent and the setting atmospheric. The staff at IZZA deserve a special mention for their warmth and hospitality. They all went to great lengths to ensure we were looked after and that our stay was nothing short of perfect. An unforgettable experience…we’ll be back soon IZZA x
