provence hotels

Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is located in the far southeastern portion of France and includes everything that runs along the Mediterranean coast. For the sake of this hotel list, we are focusing on the region North of Marseille, often referred to simply as Provence, which includes both the Luberon and Vaucluse regions of France.

This region of France is famous for its lavender, and you’ll find endless fields of locally grown crops (like apricots and melons), vineyards, Neolithic and Roman villages perched on hilltops and stone building façades covered in jasmine and ivy. You’ll also find stunning Provencal hotels, housed in ancient buildings both in rural areas and nestled in Provençal villages.

In this curated list of the prettiest hotels in Provence, we are including properties located in various villages throughout the region, including the best Provencal hotels in Lourmarin, Bonnieux, Lauris, Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Aix en Provence, Gordes and Oppede.

Where we stayed in provence

During our first trip to Provence, we had the joy of staying at Le Galinier, situated just on the edge of Lourmarin. Our stay at the 18th century bastide turned hotel is one of my favorite hotel experiences to date, and if you’re looking for a home base in the Luberon region that provides a sense of authentic Provencal charm without all of the five-star fluff, then I highly recommend spending a few nights at Le Galinier (also listed later in this post).

Grounds Domaine de Fontenille Lauris Provencal Hotel

From the Reviews: We LOVED the Domaine de Fontenille! A stay here feels like a stay in a beautiful home and we wished we could stay longer! The conversion and restoration of the building, the beautiful decor and furnishings in rooms and public areas and the lovely gardens and pool area gave us pleasure throughout our stay. (We would only ask for more spacious wardrobes!) Although we did not have the chance to enjoy a fine-dining meal due to restaurant closure, our meals at Bistrot Amelie were fresh and delicious. Breakfast was also excellent. The staff at the hotel are very dedicated and are working really hard towards a good guest experience. With further training and experience, they will deliver improved service which will complement the wonderful surroundings at the hotel.

Gourmet kitchen, beautiful living room, laundry room, etc etc. It's easy to notice the details purposely maintained to reflect the original with the convenience of the modern adapted for comfort. From the Reviews: Very beautiful estate in the countryside but close to Saint Remy de Provence. The hotel is new but despite its vicissitudes with the town hall the staff is very pleasant. The park is absolutely extraordinary, statues, fountains, swimming pool not very large but very beautiful. An extraordinary garden. Large and bright rooms. Correct welcome products. The small downside would be in the fairly minimalist decor, it's a choice but the frame could have supported more, in my opinion. To do again for dinner under the plane trees!

From the Reviews: Outstanding hotel and restaurant. We enjoyed our two day stay here so much. The room is charming and opens out onto the beautiful village square. The room is also perfectly set out and comfortable. The village is charming and lightly touched by tourism - but only lightly. There is a real local life here. The dinner was impeccable and very well priced. We looked out onto a beautiful view of the Luberon landscape. Reminded us of when we lunched in the Auberge du Soleil in Napa valley- at much greater expense ! The couple who run this place are putting in a very big effort and clearly want it to work. We came away feeling they deserve success.
