Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is located in the far southeastern portion of France and includes everything that runs along the Mediterranean coast (called the French Riviera - see our favorite French Riviera hotels here). For the sake of this post, we are focusing on the region North of Marseille, often referred to simply as Provence, which includes both the Luberon and Vaucluse regions.

This region of France is famous for its lavender, and you’ll find endless fields of locally grown crops (like apricots and melons), vineyards, Neolithic and Roman villages perched on hilltops and stone building façades covered in jasmine and ivy. You’ll also find stunning hotels, housed in ancient buildings both in rural areas and nestled in Provençal villages.

Where we stayed in provence

During our first trip to Provence, we had the joy of staying at Le Galinier, situated just on the edge of Lourmarin. Our stay at the 18th century bastide turned hotel is one of my favorite hotel experiences to date, and if you’re looking for a home base in the Luberon region that provides a sense of authentic Provencal charm without all of the five-star fluff, then I highly recommend spending a few nights at Le Galinier (also listed later in this post).

Domaine de Fontenille (Lauris)

We LOVED the Domaine de Fontenille! A stay here feels like a stay in a beautiful home and we wished we could stay longer! The conversion and restoration of the building, the beautiful decor and furnishings in rooms and public areas and the lovely gardens and pool area gave us pleasure throughout our stay. (We would only ask for more spacious wardrobes!) Although we did not have the chance to enjoy a fine-dining meal due to restaurant closure, our meals at Bistrot Amelie were fresh and delicious. Breakfast was also excellent. The staff at the hotel are very dedicated and are working really hard towards a good guest experience. With further training and experience, they will deliver improved service which will complement the wonderful surroundings at the hotel.

Capelongue (Bonnieux)

We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment and it was beautiful and tranquil. The room had a little terrasse, 2 bathrooms, 2 private rooms and 1 mezzanine room overlooking the living room. The soundproofing to the rooms was great! Venue is spectacular with a little onsite farm/allotment and lavender field. The 2 pools were lovely and the breakfast/dinner was delicious. We brought our baby and everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming of the baby which was great!

Enchantment! That is the word that comes to mind. The "villa/Maison" was straight out of a movie. The whole scene was perfect. Even the wear and tear made you feel like it should be there. The staff was kind and friendly. We stayed at the maison du chef which was basically a fully equipped house. Gourmet kitchen, beautiful living room, laundry room, etc etc. It's easy to notice the details purposely maintained to reflect the original with the convenience of the modern adapted for comfort. Literally one of the best and most beautiful places we have had the pleasure to enjoy. The price is what it should be.

Lovely Provencal chateau. Our room in the main building was very spacious with very comfortable bed. We had breakfast and lunch on the sunny terrace adjacent to the restaurant, which was a pleasure. The grounds are extensive and they provide soft-furnished seating on the lawns. The swimming pool was very warm even at the time of our stay in late October.

La Maison du Village was one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. We loved our stay there which included a fresh breakfast every morning in a beautiful courtyard, helpful staff, comfortable accommodations and located right in St. Remy within walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc. We especially would like to mention one staff member, Maelys. She was always there to help with whatever you needed and always a warm friendly smile. Highly recommend La Maison du Village!
