Hallo
If this is your first time on The Weithouse - welcome! My name is Taylor and I’m the face behind the screen and camera bringing you resources to help you plan the trip of your dreams.
In this Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market Guide, we’re sharing our experience visiting the magical Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market on a snowy day in the Black Forest of Germany.
Ravenna Gorge, germany
Through social media and other sources, I had seen bits and pieces about the Ravenna Gorge Christmas market, located in the heart of the Black Forest in Germany. The Ravenna Gorge is actually a valley through which the Ravenna stream runs (hochschwarzwald.de), but for the sake of the Christmas market, is most recognized by the 37-metre-high Ravennabrücke, the bridge that allows trains from the Höllentalbahn line to run through the valley.
We had the pleasure of visiting the Ravenna Gorge Christmas market on a Black Forest Christmas market road trip we took in 2023 and it was such a spectacular, snowy evening in a magical setting.
is the Ravenna Gorge christmas market worth it
If you’re lucky enough to snag a ticket to the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market and find yourself nearby - do it! The Ravenna Gorge Christmas market is a unique Christmas market experience (unlike any other Christmas market we’ve visited) and is a magical early or late evening for all.
The Ravenna Gorge Christmas market is set under the 37-metre-high bridge mentioned above, in the heart of the Black Forest.
Although the market itself is rather small, it hosts 40 market stalls selling everything from food to crafts and gifts.
If you’re visiting on an especially cold day like we were, you’ll wander through the market stalls and warm up with some sausages and warm gluhwein as you stand around the many fires throughout the market.
As a photographer, visiting the Ravenna Gorge Christmas market on a snowy day felt like a once in a lifetime experience, and it is a million times worth it if you’re based somewhere nearby.
how to visit the Ravenna Gorge christmas market
The Ravenna Gorge Christmas market is not free to visit and only allows a certain number of ticketholders access each day. The Ravenna Gorge Christmas market is also only open on the weekends, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the market for 2025 begins Friday, November 28 and ends Sunday, December 21.
Ticket sales for the market start on October 14, 2025 and you can purchase your tickets to the market here. Again, there are a limited number of dates and tickets which can sell out quickly, so you can sign up to receive emails from the Hochschwarzwald Tourismus GmbH website and be alerted immediately when ticket sales go live.
How to access the ravenna gorge christmas market
From freiburg, germany
We visited the Ravenna Gorge Christmas market as a day trip from our stay in Freiburg, Germany. Freiburg is a 30-minute drive from the market making it an easily accessible point for us and we already had a rental car.
If driving to the market, you do have to purchase an additional parking ticket that aligns with the time slot you’ve booked the market for, as there is limited parking on site. If you do plan to drive, be warned that when we visited it was incredibly snowy (inches of snow) and we had to get assistance when leaving the market as our car was stuck.
by public transit
If you don’t have a rental car and need to access the Ravenna Gorge Christmas market, the recommended mode of visiting is by shuttle bus. This is actually what’s recommended by the official Ravenna Gorge Christmas market website. You can take a shuttle bus to the market from Freiburg, Hinterzarten and Himmelreich.
