Freiburg, germany

Freiburg, Germany, also called Freiburg im Breisgau, is a city in Germany’s Black Forest, near the border of both Switzerland and France.

Freiburg is a university town, which you can feel in the buzz of the student atmosphere as you walk around the mix of medieval and modern architecture in the city. The city itself is walkable and much smaller than larger cities like Munich, making Freiburg an enjoyable German destination to visit anytime of year and especially during the Christmas season.

I was pleasantly surprised with how charming Freiburg was. Freiburg still has a lot of historic buildings and streets, and during our time there it was covered in snow adding to the Christmas magic and charm.

Freiburg is also home to the breathtaking Freiburg Cathedral, which stands in Freiburg’s Münsterplatz with the backdrop of the forest behind it. The cathedral is surrounded by little food truck and food market stands selling everything from produce to Christmas greenery and garland.
